Diets imagination

To try to suppress thoughts of food that are desired in order to reduce anxiety by eating them is a failed strategy ?? says Carey Morewedge, lead author of the study conducted by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Such research reveals that in imagining that a particular food is eaten, the actual consumption is reduced. Other implications of this research include the discovery that mental imagery can enact habituation without the preingesta sensory stimulation and to stimulate a repeated action can sometimes trigger behavioral consequences. ?? The habituation is not governed only by the sensory inputs, but also the way we mentally represent the consumer experience. To some extent, the mere imagination of an experience is a substitute for actual experience. The experiment
The team published five experiments tested whether mental stimulation of food intake reduces its subsequent actual consumption. In the first experiment, participants imagined performing 33 repetitive actions. A control group imagined inserting coins quarter dollar in a laundry washing machine. Another group imagined inserting 30 pieces of quarter in these washing machines and then imagined eating three tablets of M & M, while a third group imagined inserting three quarters into a washing machine and then imagined eating 30 units of these confections. Then all probands could consume as many chocolate bars as they wanted a full container.

Participants who had imagined eating 30 units of these tablets ate significantly less sweet compared to participants in the other two groups. To ensure that the results were due to imagined consumption and not to the control task, the next experiment manipulated the experience imagined (enter rooms or eating dollar) and the number of times imagined. Again, participants who imagined eating 30 M & M consumed after less than these confections regarding the participants in the other groups.

The latest tests showed that the reduction in the actual intake after the imagined consumption was due to habituation (a gradual reduction in motivation to eat more food) rather than alternative, such as mnemonic impression (priming) psychological processes or change in taste perception of the food.
