I spent yesterday in Provo at Dragon’s Keep celebrating Free Comic Book Day 2008. The event had many highlights. First, I was able to meet some new Technosaurs fans, which is always a pleasure. Second, I was able to hang out with Howard Tayler, who had graciously saved me some table space next to him, since I arrived later than the other guests (and yes, he managed to keep me laughing, all day). Third, I’m pleased to announce that you can now find Technosaurs, issue 1, on the shelves at Dragon’s Keep (and they’re all signed copies). And fourth, Howard introduced Chad Hardin and I to Sushi Ya in Orem. Like most people who haven’t really “experienced” sushi, I was under the impression that I did not like it. But, I must admit, I was wrong. The food was fabulous. Sushi Ya’s “Hurricane” roll is an absolute delicacy. Not to mention our . . . bartender (what do you call the server at a sushi bar?) . . . totally enrichened the experience by whipping up a couple of his own recipes that were simply amazing. All in all, it was a good day.

And, by the way, don’t forget to get your FREE download of Technosaurs, Issue 1, at WOWIO.com.

One might argue that the continuation of a species–and perhaps a webcomic–is dependant on the ability to adapt. And so it is that I would like to announce the next step in the evolution of Technosaurs.

First, Technosaurs will no longer be available as a standard webcomic. But, it will be available as a series of e-books through WOWIO.com . . . and it will still be FREE. Issue 1 is already available for download. Issue 2 will follow shortly, and issue 3 should arrive near the end of the year. But you won’t have to wait that long to read #3. Technosaurs will also appear in Darwin’s Evolutions, a new e-zine of speculative fiction launching at the end of May.

Printed copies of Technosaurs will still be available at Indy Planet, and to be honest, this is by far the best way to enjoy Technosaurs (my apologies to the trees).

I hope you all will continue to support Technosaurs. I’ve truly enjoyed the creation of the comic, and I believe that these changes will open new doors and opportunities for this and other projects I have waiting in the wings.

Thanks,

There are only two pages left to complete Technosaurs, Issue 2, but I’m going to leave you hanging just a little longer. Sorry.

Next week I hope to make a couple of announcements with regard to the future of Technosaurs. (Yes, they are good announcements. I just need to finalize a few things before I go public.) Let me just say this . . . Technosaurs will still be free online, it will be presented in a format that will better compliment its story and design, and it will be able to further expand its readership, so needless to say, I’m looking forward to next week.

Thanks for reading Technosaurs.

It never ceases to amaze me what can be accomplished through the internet. A few weeks ago, I learned about Anthology Builder . It’s a website that let’s you compile you’re own anthology of short stories, complete with your cover art of choice. I decided to give it a shot and uploaded some of my own art, selected a handful of stories, and bought it (you can see my anthology here). About a week later, I received the book in the mail. From the beginning, I thought Anthology Builder was a brilliant idea, but I reserved final judgement until I received the actual book. And, I must say, I was very impressed. The printing and shipping is handled by Lulu.com and the quality of book was excellent.

Anthology Builders is still in its Beta stage, so there is plenty of room for growth and improvement, but it’s off to a great start. Kudos to Nancy Fulda for master-minding the project!

Let me give you a word of advice. Don’t try to maintain a full-time job, paint a house, attend a convention, spend time with your family, do illustration work, and draw a comic all in the same month. I tried that these past few weeks, and something had to give. Unfortunately, that something was Technosaurs. On the bright side, people still like me at work, my new house is nearing completion, I was able to promote T-saurs pretty heavily at the convention, and my family knows I love them.

Last week, I attended Life, The Universe, and Everything 2008. The convention was fantastic. I met a lot of great people and got to hang out with some good friends, like Darwin A. Garrison, Julie Wright, Howard Tayler, Robert Defendi, and Kevin and Karen Evans. I also visited with Gail Carson Levine, Brandon Sanderson, and Jessica Day George. Orson Scott Card was also a guest of honor, but unfortunately, our paths never crossed.

As a guest of honor, I was required to present a Main Address. I chose to speak about Using Sketchbooks to Enhance Creativity. It was the first time I have spoken often in the past, but never for 40 minutes, so this was a challenge for me. But, overall it seemed to go well and to be well received. I will post the gist of it at www.sketchbooksforkids.org .

The most disappointing thing about the convention was that it had to end. I definitely am looking forward to next year.

-kw

P.S. By the way, Technosaurs is in the comic spotlight at Indy Planet. Check it out. And feel free to leave a review. Pretty please.
